Ballard Rifels from 1862 to 1864, made under contract for Merwin & Bray.
In December of 1863 Winchester leased the Dwight, Chapin & Company armory in
Bridgeport, Connecticut. Winchester’s reason for this was to expand the production
of the Henry rifle. Because of the tension between the two men the production at
the Bridgeport armory did not begin immediately. It was not until September, 1864
that the Bridgeport facility was in full operation. No sooner had the Bridgeport
facility started up there was an order for five hundred Henry rifles from the
Kingdom of Bavaria. Very rare.
